22 Apr 2008 - Summer Term Newsletter 1
SUMMER TERM NEWSLETTER 1
Dear Parents and Friends
Grateful thanks to everyone who so generously donated goodies and the many who kindly came and bought some. Special thanks to Mrs Pethick who once again donated a wonderfully decorated cake that was auctioned very profitably!
Could I remind you that the girls may now wear their summer uniform, either white blouse, grey skirt and sweatshirt, or green and white checked summer dress. All children should still be wearing ties (unless wearing dresses of course!).
You should soon receive an outline of the work your child is expected to cover this term. Please go through this with him/her and where possible give support during the term. A separate leaflet giving Maths activities to try out with your child will also follow shortly.
Netball Club will re-commence for years 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, finishing at
4.30 p.m.
If your child would like to participate, please return the reply slip this week. Mr Alfords’s Football Club has now been replaced by the Cricket Club. This will only take place on fine days when the children can play outside. If in doubt about whether the club is on, please telephone after
1.00 p.m. Children will not be permitted to telephone home.
The school band, brass and guitar lessons will recommence next week.
Other instrumental lessons, woodwind, keyboard and violin will all recommence this week.
SWIMMING
SCHOOL DINNERS
The cost of school meals has increased this term to £1.85 each, £9.25 per week, £44.40 for the first half term or £109.15 for the full term. This represents excellent value for money.
During last term one of our children mislaid a clarinet and has no idea where. It’s in a black case. If by any chance one has turned up with you in error or you might know of its whereabouts, please let us know as soon as possible. Thank you.
TRAVEL TO AND FROM ST PETER’S
With the lighter mornings and evenings, I hope that it may be possible for a greater number of children to walk to school … for at least the latter part of the journey, thus reducing congestion and providing children with a degree of exercise and independence. If travelling by car maybe children could be dropped off and picked up at the entrance to Greenlands estate or near the entrance to Deer Park Crescent.
Please could I remind a very small number of parents that cars MUST NOT be driven into the school drive or turning circle to drop off or pick up children between 8.40 – 9.00 a.m. and 3.30 – 3.45 p.m. Further, children should not be arriving at school before 8.40 a.m. . Children are supervised on the playground from 8.50 a.m.
Tesco Vouchers for Computers
Sainsbury Active Kids Vouchers
Nestle Cereal Tokens for books (worth 10p each)
Old spectacles (for Vision Aid Overseas)
Empty computer printer cartridges
Used Postage Stamps (for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf)
A BIG thank you to all who regularly make contributions of any of these.
CHILDREN’S
During last term a number of children arrived at school feeling unwell and we needed to contact parents to ask that they be collected. Clearly if a child is not well, school is not a good place for them to be, not least because they could pass their illness on to others. I know it can be a difficult call as to whether a child is genuinely ill, but it would be good if you would err on the side of caution. Thank you.
N.U.T. ACTION
You will be aware that some schools will be affected by strike action on Thursday. I am delighted that St Peter’s staff will all be in school and our day will run as normal.
POETRY IN THE PEWS
Most of our children have had their poems displayed in the
