14 Jul 2008 - Summer Term Final Newsletter

SUMMER TERM

END OF YEAR NEWSLETTER

        Monday, 14th July, 2008

Dear Parents and Friends

SINCERE THANKS

As this is the last newsletter of the year, I thank all of you who have so generously supported the school with many hours of practical help, expertise, enthusiasm and encouragement.  It is enormously appreciated by all of us in the school. It undeniably makes a very significant difference to the quality of education we can provide for our children. Especially to those parents whose youngest child leaves this week, we are particularly indebted to you.  Your efforts and achievements for St Peter’s will live on into the coming years.  To all supporters of the school ……

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH INDEED

MRS STEVENS AND MR BERRY

After eight and two years respectively we will be saying farewell to these two greatly valued and appreciated teachers. Mrs Stevens has played an enormous role in the school and in particular must take much credit for leading the rise in standards of literacy across the school. Her wholehearted commitment to the school and her ever cheerfulness and enthusiasm will be greatly missed. We all wish her well in her new school in Redruth and for the family’s impending move. In the short time that Mr Berry has been with us, he has shown real care for the children and greatly helped those he has taught to progress well. Our loss is Lewtrenchard School ’s gain. I’m sure you would join us in wishing them both every success and happiness in the future.

CARNIVAL REMINDERS

Much of the work for our Carnival Procession entry has now been completed, thanks to Donna Collacott and a small dedicated team of helpers who have met regularly to prepare scenery and props. All we need now is a team of folk to help construct the float at school on Saturday, from and dismantle it at about 8.00 p.m. Many thanks to those who have already offered support … but as always, I’m sure  more would be welcome. A few reminders for participants ….

- walkers/collectors need to meet at the float in Down Road by Sorry I can't say exactly where, but I'm sure we will be quite recognisable. The children are welcome to bring along a packed tea as we will be on the float for a long time. Also, a cushion would be useful to sit on. PLEASE ensure your child goes to the toilet just before leaving home!

- At the end of the carnival procession the children will have to get off the float in Down Road . We will try to stop the lorry as close to the footpath to Deer Park as possible. PLEASE be there to collect your child. If no one is there for him/her we will walk him/her back to school with us.

  YEAR SATs RESULTS

. We will try to stop the lorry as close to the footpath to Deer Park as possible. PLEASE be there to collect your child. If no one is there for him/her we will walk him/her back to school with us.

I anticipate that these will arrive in the next day or two. We will inform the children as soon as we can and confirm the results in writing as soon as possible thereafter. I am optimistic of our children at least matching last year’s outstanding results!

ANNUAL REPORTS

I hope you have found your child’s annual report helpful. If you have not already signed and returned one of the copies, please could you do so now. Thank you.

PARENTS' QUESTIONNAIRE

Many thanks to everyone who kindly returned the questionnaire about the life of the school. These will be analysed shortly and the outcomes will be reported early in the new school year. If you have not yet returned the St Peter’s School questionnaire, it is still not too late! If you’ve lost yours or can’t recall receiving one, please ask for another. We value every one!

LOST  PROPERTY

As usual, at the end of term we seem to have accumulated a quantity of items disowned by the children ... mainly unnamed uniform. You are very welcome to pop in and look through our lost property box and reclaim long lost items.  Anything remaining will be given to Operation Sunshine to send to remote villages in Zambia or Zimbabwe .

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

We were all impressed and thrilled with the performances of the children last week. From the feedback we’ve received, it’s clear that many of you felt the same. Again, thank you to all of you who played any part in helping to make it such a success. Unfortunately we didn’t take any photographs (!), so if you have any that you wouldn’t mind sharing we’d be del ighted to see them. They can be e-mailed to admin@tav-stpeters.devon.sch.uk. Thank you.

A PERSONAL NOTE

This will be my last ever newsletter, and it is with very mixed feelings that I complete it. I have been very blessed to have been headteacher for so long at such a lovely school. When I first arrived in January 1985, I anticipated staying maybe 5 or 6 years before looking for another move. It wasn’t to be, as I’ve never sought to move on, such was the affinity I felt with the school, the children and everyone associated with it, and I have no regrets whatsoever. That is a very satisfying and pleasing thing to be able to say. There have been many changes in education, and indeed, in society at large, in that time … many for the better and some, I’m not so sure about. But life is constantly changing and that is right. I am delighted and excited about the future plans for the school, both under the Federation and the new leadership, and that the long awaited building improvement work is really getting closer. The coming years will be exciting times in the life of St Peter’s and I will watch with very great interest. Above all, I trust the enthusiasm and joy the children have will be maintained and that the school will retain that ‘specialness’ that I believe it has. With all our prayers, I’m sure God will continue to bless the work that goes on here.

I must thank all of you, children, families, staff, governors, past and present, for the privilege it has been to help lead such a good, caring and friendly school.

Yours sincerely
