AUTUMN TERM NEWSLETTER 4

Dear Parents and Friends

DEVON AIR AMBULANCE APPEAL
I hope your child brought home a red 'Heli-bag' at the end of last half term. A BIG thank you to those who have already returned one, crammed full of items to be sold in the Devon Air Ambulance charity shops. Please return yours by Wednesday morning, at the latest, as their lorry will be calling to pick them up during that day. Please do not send items into school after this as they will not be collected. They would very much welcome the return of any unused bags, as these can be used in another school.

MRS HARRIS
Regrettably for us, Mrs Harris is to retire at the end of this term after 15 years of genuinely dedicated service to the children of St Peter's School. Throughout that time I know many parents and children have appreciated her extremely patient, caring and intuitive support and encouragement for children that have had learning difficulties, particularly in relation to reading. It is extremely gratifying to have seen so many children that have come under her wing, initially finding reading skills so difficult, and then by the time they have left the school, either being fluent or at least having sufficient skills to cope well at their secondary school and in future life. Her impact on numerous lives is enormous. Added to this has been her leadership of the Country Dance Club which has always been one of the most popular of our after-school club activities. I am delighted that Mrs Anning has agreed to undertake Mrs Harris' special needs teaching role after the Christmas break.

SCHOOL BAND
Reminder : This will commence this Thursday at 8.15 a.m.

ALL SAINTS SCHOOLS' EUCHARIST SERVICE -
Wednesday, 7 November 9.00 a.m.
The children should report directly to the Parish Church, by 8.55 a.m. at the latest. They should NOT arrive at school! We will be walking back up to school after the service. You are very warmly invited to join us at the church.

MR EVES - Tavistock College - Thursday 1st November
Parents of our years 5 and 6 children are warmly invited and encouraged to come and hear Mr Eves (The Principal) speak about life at the College. It will be a good opportunity to learn about the College and ask questions prior to selecting a place at or transferring there.

BOOK FAIR Thursday 15th - Wednesday 21st November
You should receive a separate leaflet about this event nearer the time.
Thursday 3.00 - 4.00 p.m. (adults only!)
Friday - Wednesday 12.30 - 1.15 p.m. (children only)

DINNER MONEY for this half term is £68.25

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
We expect delivery of the children's photographs any day now. The cost and details for payment will be included within the photo packs. Please pay for or return unwanted packs promptly, and certainly by Thursday 8th November at the very latest. Thank you.

ST PETER'S FILM CLUB
Those of you that were part of St Peter's last year will know of our very popular film club, showing new children's films, often prior to their public release on DVD. I plan to show a film, roughly once a month through the winter. I am hoping to start on Thursday 15th November, but am waiting confirmation of film availability.
The cost will be £2.50 per child or adult, open to all. Refreshments in the form of ice cream, drinks and sweets will be available. Profits made are given to the S.P.A. for investment on new school equipment.

TESCO SPORT for SCHOOLS VOUCHERS
Thank you so much to everyone who is collecting these on our behalf. I understand that they will continue to be available until 4th November. After that date please send them in to school as soon as you can, so that we can 'purchase' some more play/sports equipment for the children. Thank you.

Yours sincerely

John George

Headteacher
