SPRING TERM

NEWSLETTER 2

Thursday 24th January 2008

Dear Parents and Friends.

School Inspection of Aided Schools

With this newsletter you should also receive a copy of the inspector’s report covering the school’s Christian ethos, worship and religious education. As you will see, in many ways it reflects the very positive judgements made by the OFSTED inspectors, strengthening the view that St Peter’s is indeed a good school. It is very clear that the vast majority of our children do very well, are confident and well prepared for the future when they leave us.

Armed with this combined evidence, please continue to promote the school,  as ideally, we do need to admit more pupils in September. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any Year 4 or 5 pupils at the present time. As far as is possible we need to know our anticipated numbers by the beginning of July in order to finalise class structures for the coming September.

Stranger Danger

I am aware that there has been a rumour of an ‘incident’ regarding a man loitering outside the school. This is totally unsubstantiated and no such concern has been reported to the police. They have checked records going back to December 2006 and there has been nothing logged within the vicinity of the school. Whilst this is very reassuring, it does serve to remind us all to be vigilant and to remind our children of the possible dangers if approached by people they do not know.   Ob viously, if you do have any concerns at all it is vital that they are reported to me and the police.

Pupil Post

If this is working well you should have received a copy of your child’s ‘Themes for the Term’, a Maths Targets and Help sheet. If you have not seen any of these please check with your child and if necessary, request another copy.

EDUCATION SUNDAY SONGS OF PRAISE  This Sunday 27th January –

Our school choir and a few of our musicians will be joining with other local schools to help lead the singing in this very relaxed and informal service held in the Parish   Church . You are very warmly invited to join us. The service usually lasts about an hour.

YELLOW PAGES!

The collection is now well under way … with at least 500 towards our mammoth target of at 1500!  Last year we collected about 1450 and won £400 for our recycling efforts.  If each family could search out 10 Yellow pages from neighbours, relatives, work colleagues, etc, we’d easily surpass our target.

CHILD ILLNESS

We have had an unusually high number of childen having to go home from school recently with upset stomachs and other illnesses. We are not sure if it is linked to the Norovirus that has been quite widespread in the country. If it is, it is a relatively mild virus, but one that is highly contagious. If your child complains of sudden abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, please keep him/her at home until you are sure they are well. The virus normally passes within 48 hours.

    MOBILE PHONES

I am aware that a few of the older children, of necessity, bring mobile phones to school and sensibly leave them in Mrs Bassett’s office during the day. This should be for exceptional reasons rather than normal practice.  At no time should a child have a mobile phone with them or leave them in the cloakroom during the day. If a child really needs to bring a phone to school, please could you write a short note ind icating that you have given permission. Without your written permission, no such phones are permitted in school. Please note that we can accept no responsibility whatsoever for phones that are brought in to school.

And finally, a PARKING PLEA

Please could I remind those of you who drop off and collect children by car to ensure that you do not block any of the local residents driveways. It is immensely frustrating for them if they find they cannot get in or out of their own property. Also, of course, the school turning circle and driveway should not be used for parking, dropping off or picking up, at the beginning and end of the school day. Thank you.

Yours sincerely
